With the commencement ceremony on the 27th July, the start for construction of the new LIZ (Light Innovation Centre) was initiated in Traunreut. The LIZ will serve as an exhibition, training and research centre and is part of a comprehensive investment program for Traunreut. The Siteco management greeted guests such as the district administrator Hermann Steinmaßl and the mayor of Traunreut, Franz Parzinger. The project architects Georg Brüderl and Hermann Namberger were also present.
''Making innovation, service and competence visible is the aim of the LIZ'', stated the Siteco managing director Andreas Schütte. ''The LIZ will also become a think tank and architectonic stage for the development and presentation of new products, technologies and lighting concepts''. Additionally, the LIZ is will serve as a forum and campus for seminars and training events for customers and lighting professionals. There will be up to 10,000 national and international guests yearly to this unique exhibition centre for lighting innovation.
The futuristic building, designed by the Traunreut company Brüderl + Namberger will be constructed on the open space adjacent to the white house and should be completed in Autumn 2007. According to the architects, the new design is based upon the present semi-circular central building and the southern administration construction and completes the northern complex with a 75m long conical form. ''Together with the present buildings the c. 1500m² construction forms an inner courtyard area with a relaxed atmosphere that encourages guests to stay.
Just last year Siteco celebrated 30 years at Traunreut with an entertaining Open Day. The present LIZ was opened in 1971, four years before the construction of the luminaire manufacturing works. Today, 35 years later, it cannot any more offer a suitable framework for the complex technical field of light. After the transferral of luminaire production from Maribor (Slovenia) to Traunreut, the building of the new LIZ is a further step in the strengthening of the Traureut headquarters as a centre for european lighting. |
