Siteco Light for Top-Permormance Sport

The Olympic Stadium in Helsinki was modified between 1994 and 1999. But only within the scope of the Athletics World Championships were the floodlights adapted to the newest standards.

Siteco Lighting Systems were authorised with the planning and realisation. The positioning of the luminaires was determined to a great extent by the structural conditions.

The projectors were installed in four blocks on the tribunes (the stadium oval), as well as on the tribune roofs. Under the tribune roofs can be found additional rows of SiCOMPACT S2 MAXI floodlights that on the east tribune are positioned into a furrow, ensuring they are flush with the lower roof edge. In total, Siteco installed 156 SiCOMPACT R2 MAXI projectors and 73 SiCOMPACT S2 MAXI floodlights, each with 2000 watt. This enables the 1000 Lux illuminance required for the athletics championships in the direction of the main cameras to be achieved.

The level of lighting for football events at a later date can be increased at any time. In order to obtain the highest level of non-shadow illumination possible, Siteco developed its Crossed Diagonal Technology (CDT): projectors are no more situated on a limited number of corner points, but are positioned in a lateral row along the stadium roof. In many arenas rotosymmetrical projectors have been mounted underneath the roofing, and because of their precise focussing of light they are ideal for illuminating over large distances
