Static Prismatic Systems

Function

The static prism system is a transparent sun protection system for glass roofs that prevents the ingress of the sun's heat into the interior of the building and at the same time lets through a maximum of diffuse daylight.

Sunlight protection is based on direction-dependent reflection and transmission with a pre-defined blocking and transmission span. The blocking area of the system reflects all incoming sunlight outwards. The transmission area is concieved so that a maximum level of diffuse daylight can enter into the interior.

The prismatic system is set according to the progression of the sun across the hemisphere during the day (as far as geographical and architectural factors allow). Construction The 206 x 206 mm prism elements are firstly given a specular finish with ultra-pure aluminium within a high vacuum atmosphere.

The next step involves connecting the louvre elements together, clipping them together at their corners and cutting them to size according to the building location and its architectural conditions. In order to protect the partly-specular louvre from external influences (dampness, dust etc), the inlet is bordered with a special edge profile. Glass discs are glued onto this edge profile and sealed with a sealing compound (thiolol, silicone). The prism inlets can be combined with different discs in order to satisfy most constructional requirements.
